The Manufacturers Consortium
To help solve the current and growing qualified technical worker shortage problem.
Minnesota is expected to add 205,000 jobs by 2022, but the labor force is projected to reach only 68,400 during that time. Unlike two decades ago, when the labor force was growing about 1.5% a year, annual labor force growth in the coming years will be about 0.3%, thereby intensifying the shortage of workers. More specifically, YOUR workforce needs – qualified technical workers – are far from being met right now and will get worse without action.
Where Are You Going To Find Your Future Workforce?
Join us. We’re a group of like-minded manufacturers who share many of your challenges. We want to present ideas and experiences and hear yours. We want to build solutions to help address this labor shortage issue and to help you develop a strategic plan. Now. We hear you.
Who Is TMC?
Several dozen dynamic manufacturers and support partners in business, education and government, including DEED and a wide range of industry and other talented experts as well as the North Hennepin Chamber of Commerce. We welcome anyone else who understands your business and can bring a solution to the table.
Why Is This a Good Idea?
We all need answers to a severe shortage of qualified workers now, through the need for long-term workforce development and manufacturing performance excellence at every level.
- We intend to help you, your current and support partners and our state leaders deliver on that goal. Our support partners need to know what you need.
- We will endeavor to be the catalyst for all concerned.
- We want those who have the proficiency to have an opportunity to become trained, certified and employable in key technical “disciplines,” according to the direction we have received from our TMC members.
What Are The Initial Career Targets We’re Pursuing?
Automation Robotics/Engineering Technology
Tool & Die/Moldmaking Technicians
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Technicians
Quality Assurance Technicians
Benefit To You
We want to bring you the employees you need, initially as paid interns
while they complete acceptable training/certification.
Benefit To The Potential Intern/Employee
The path to a prized education and a very rewarding career, at a very low cost. Work, learn, make good money and build a future that might not have been possible before.
Have We Made Progress? Yes.
Through our close working arrangement with our partner colleges, we have already identified high-probability student targets.
We have a head start. We want to screen them against your needs and present those who will likely succeed and fit. Later, we will expand to other colleges and start recruiting more potential enrollees/interns.
In short, we have been building a Technical Internship Development Program with you that includes these factors:
- Recruiting of likely candidates
- Screening for technical proficiency
- Enrollment in an applicable college career track
- Full-time job emplacement
- Funding of the college career track
What Will It Cost?
It will cost you and your company nothing but your time. We are reasonably sure that it will cost the student very little. We have done considerable research into available state and Federal grants and new funding sources which indicate a most attractive solution for those student candidates. We have also determined there are time limits involved in securing those grants and funds, and they are upon us now. We must act quickly to help ensure they can be applied this year!
What Do We Want From You?
Your involvement and support. Your ideas and your shared experiences.
First, we want job descriptions for intern spots in your company.
We believe the effort will be of priceless value to any company looking to fill its technical employee ranks. You can’t buy this kind of help, but you can help make it happen.
