Career Speakers

Osseo Senior High School

Each school year, Chamber of Commerce members representing a wide variety of careers graced our community-based work experience classroom. These extraordinary business leaders shared their insights and experiences with our students and the result was a highly successful year filled with insightful speakers; truly the highlight of our school year together. Our students’ year-end reflections related how much each had learned from the positive contact of community members. In fact, this series of speakers was overwhelmingly mentioned by the students as their most enjoyable and valuable classroom experience.

As we begin a new school year, we are again hoping to enrich our students’ classroom and on-the-job experiences with the perspectives and expertise of volunteer community speakers.

The work experience program here at OSH serves a diverse population of young people in grades 10 through 12. Most of our students are in the school building for 5 of 6 hours in the day, and then continue their education by working at a community-based job site. Our goal has been to enrich their educational experiences by facilitating “real-life” contact with community members representing a wide-range of career options. Chamber speakers have shared their stories of the preparation and experiences that have brought them to their current advanced careers. This enables our students to realize that all our experiences build upon the previous ones and that they will not simply wake-up one day in the career of their dreams without hard work and planning. In addition, speakers can share their observations of the positive work ethics and attributes that will lead to success in the world of work.

We teach 3 work experience classes each day during the following hours: 7:30-8:30; 9:30-10:30; and 10:30-11:30. There are approximately 25 students per class – with the support of 2 teachers. Our speakers in the past have had a very positive experience and we believe that we can guarantee that will continue this school year.

Chamber members interested in volunteering their time to speak to our classes can email or call us at the numbers below.

Please email Work Experience Coordinator Kathy Brown at BrownK@District279.Org  or call (763) 391-8529.
